The Hoxton - Holborn Review

The Hoxton – Holborn

As part of our London trip, Lesley selected The Hoxton – Holborn, as the hotel we were going to stay in.

Only 5 minutes from Holborn underground station and a 10 minute walk from Covent Garden, it is ideally placed for a weekend in the capital.

The first thing you will notice when you walk in

off the street is how lively the lobby is. Pretty much every chair and sofa was occupied by young hip, creative professionals who are there working on Mac books, networking both in person and online. We

headed to the reception desk where we received a warm welcome. We chose not to be offended when she pointed out that we had probably noticed that the hotel had a young vibe!

They have a range of rooms with names based on their square footage. They are Shoebox, Snug, Cosy, Cosy up,  Roomy and Biggy. Lesley, traded in our Tesco vouchers, had selected the Cosy (170 sq ft/16 sq m!). It was delightful and certainly big enough for the two of us. With wooden floors throughout and wooden fittings in the bedroom and then an industrial look in the bathroom, we were impressed. 2 x 13 amp sockets  and USB ports at both sides of the bed allowed for device charging without trailing wires.

The in-room fridge had complimentary water and milk and a digital information guide

accessed via QR code was super helpful. The hotel website boasts of having wallpaper designed by Central St Martins students which might go some way to explain the weird and violent images on our walls!

A couple of minor niggles. Why do some hotels have wooden bed bases with sharp edges ensuring that the residents risk pain and souvenir bruises? The bathroom looked lovely, all chrome and black and white metro tiles. I prefer the rain shower type head whilst Lesley always goes for the standard shower head. We had a choice but there was no fixture for the standard head requiring Lesley to wash with one hand as she held the shower with the other.

On Saturday, we had breakfast at the on-site Rondo restaurant. Our much-needed Americano coffees (£3 each) were excellent, the best we had on the trip. In a move that surprised not only Lesley but me as well ,I selected the granola with fresh fruit and yoghurt (£8). It was ok. I am not a fan of warm yoghurt and recognise I am spoilt with the mix Lesley has created that I have most days……I knew I should have gone with an unhealthy alternative! Lesley chose organic jumbo oat porridge, banana & maple syrup (£8) She thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were attentive, helpful and amusing,

We loved staying a the Hoxton and it would definitely be a preference on our next trip
